Description
The protective function of groundwater cover describes the natural potential compared to a groundwater hazard due to the penetration of pollutants from the earth’s surface through the soil and the deeper area of the unsaturated zone up to reaching the groundwater surface from the point of view of geological-hydrogeological natural space equipment. Groundwater cover is understood to mean the soil and the rock body above the top contiguous groundwater stock plant that is potentially usable for groundwater extraction (DIN 4049). This quantifying methodology follows a concept agreed between the state geological services of the Federal Republic of Germany, which confronts the increasing conflicts of interest in connection with the use of natural resources from the point of view of applied geosciences.
