Drinking water protection areas (WSG)
Description
A drinking water protection area (WSG) is a catchment area of drinking water abstraction points of the public water supply established by ordinance in accordance with Section 51(1) of the Water Resources Act (WHG) in conjunction with Section 91 of the Lower Saxony Water Act (NWG) in order to protect the water against adverse effects.The drinking water protection area is divided into zones with different protective provisions: Protection zone I – enclosure area, protection zone II – narrower protection zone, protection zone III – further protection zone (partly divided into III A and III B). The protection provisions are broken down by protected zone in the respective protected zone ordinance (see link in attribute table under ‘RQ_LINK’). Both ‘established WSG’ and ‘WSG im Verfahrens’ with draft ordinances and ‘provisional WSG’ with interim orders pursuant to § 52(2) WHG are presented.
