Carbon-rich soils in Lower Saxony 1: 50 000 with relevance for grassland maintenance without sealed areas
Description
According to the fifth sentence of Paragraph 5(2) of the Bundesnaturschutzgesetz (Federal Nature Conservation Act, ‘the BNatSchG’), grassland conversion must be avoided on slopes at risk of erosion, in floodplains, on sites with high groundwater levels and on moorland sites. The aim of a grassland conversion ban is to prevent the loss of ecologically valuable permanent grassland. With the agreement of the Lower Saxony path between agriculture, nature conservation and politics, a penalty-based ban on grassland for moorland sites was issued, which is legally formulated in §2a of the Lower Saxony Implementation Act to the BNatSchG (NAGBNatSchG). The moorland sites to which the grassland conversion ban applies have been described in detail in the design instructions of the MU and are shown on this map. These include the soil categories raised bog, low bog, flat-covered bog, organo marsh with low bog cover and sand deck culture.
