Description
The role of the Irish Walled Towns Network (IWTN) is to unite and co-ordinate the strategic efforts of local authorities involved in the management, conservation and enhancement of historic walled towns in Ireland, both North and South, with the main objective to ensure that these fascinating monuments do not collapse. Almost all of the projects have a tangible tourism benefit. The dataset maps Medieval and post-Medieval urban walled settlements as quantified and identified by Avril Thomas in her book “The Walled Towns of Ireland” Volumes 1 & 2 (1992), published by Irish Academic Press, Dublin.
