Description
Geotopes represent earth-historical formations of inanimate nature, which convey knowledge of the development or past life on earth. Geotopes include rocks, fossils, landscapes and spring formations. Geotopes of the same genesis are grouped together into geotope types. Legally protected are those geotopes that are characterised by their special earth-historical significance, rarity or peculiarity. For science, research and teaching, they are documents of particular value. They can be clearly distinguished from the environment due to their special characteristics.
