Contribution of particulate matter by burning wood and fossil fuel

Description

When burning wood and fossil fuels (mainly diesel), particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and black carbon (BC) are released. These substances are harmful to health, including respiratory infections, asthma, clogging of blood vessels and causing cancer. Black carbon (BC) is a component of particulate matter. In addition, there is also OC (organic carbon) and brown carbon that is part of OC. Wood burning contributes more to particulate matter concentrations in the air than burning fossil fuels. The combustion of fossil fuels generally contributes more to the black carbon concentration in the air than wood combustion.
