Change in Openness (Monitor Landscape)
Description
The openness of the landscape is determined by the elements higher than eye level in the wide environment: slopes, rising vegetation such as forest, girths and woodwalls, and construction of cities, villages and houses and businesses. The openness indicator shows how many hectares you can see, up to a distance of 2200 meters, from a specific spot; the greater the number of hectares you can see, the greater the openness.
The indicator is part of the Monitor Landscape. The monitor shows the changes in our landscape on the basis of six indicators. These are: buildings, land use, openness, rising greenery, historical line elements and relief.
The National Agency for Cultural Heritage, Het Kadaster, LandschapNL and Wageningen University & Research developed the Landscape Monitor on behalf of the ministries of BZK (Home Affairs), OCW (Education, Culture and Science) and LNV (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality).
