What is the Value: Diffuse soil contamination is the result of careless actions in the past, and is still a concern due to unintended dispersion of substances (metals, antibiotics, pesticides, etc). Soil contamination is one of the threats in the European Soil Strategy. In the Netherlands, the effect of metals on the ecosystem is greatest and the environmental impact is still not fully controlled, and new threats are emerging (pesticides, antibiotics, nanomaterials, etc.).
