Description
Overview of areas designated for the extraction of sand and gravel at sea on the basis of the Ontgrondingenweg. Sand and gravel may be extracted from the North Sea – seaward of the through NAP -20 m isobath – with a permit. Sand extraction is even an activity of national importance. This layer also contains the permit area for the (trial winning) of shells. It concerns a strip of 50 km seaward from the coast line GLLWS, excluding the fore delta and a strip formed by LLWS-5m to the coastline from Hoek van Holland to Petten and a strip formed by the 3 mile border from Petten to Ameland. An environmental impact report has been drawn up for large-scale sand extraction in the North Sea. In this EIA, search areas have been defined for the period 2018-2027. In the future, these search areas will (partly) be used as licensed sand extraction areas.
