Salt Structures of Northern Gemany (1:500,000)

Description

New map of salt structures in northern Germany on a scale of 1:500.000, including the German share of the North Sea (with “Duckbeak”). The map contains all the salt structures in this area, distinguished in salt sticks, salt pillows and salt intrusions. The salt sticks show the maximum circumference and are differentiated into those on which the lower chalk cover or older sediments are still preserved and those on which they are missing among younger sediments. The salt pillows are distinguished in Zechstein salt, keuper salt and upper jura salt pillows. In addition, the following are shown: the spread of Zechstein diapires, the spread of the Zechstein salinar, the spread of the red lying salinar structures and the designation of the structures. Four sections indicate the morphological diversity of salt structures, a selection of literature provides guidance for further research on various scientific topics on salt structures. The map is based on the results of the Geotectonic Atlas created in the BGR, the geophysical map work of the GDR until 1989 and derived work from it. Furthermore, data collected by BGR in the area of the North Sea are currently taken into account.
