WMS LGRB-BW BOPA: BopaBW – Near-surface soil parameters Baden-Württemberg

Description

This visualisation service visualises important soil parameters in the topsoil, which have been modelled using Sentinel-2 time series of the years 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 and a Random Forest (RF) approach. The forecasts refer exclusively to agricultural land in Baden-Württemberg. The RF modeling was carried out with the help of the statistical software R. To train the models, data from classical soil mapping (Landesamt für Geology, Raw Materials and Mining, LGRB), information from permanent observation areas (Landesamt für Umwelt Baden Württemberg, LUBW), from the European LUCAS database (ESDA) and from project-related field campaigns carried out in cooperation of the LGRB with colleagues of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Raw Materials (BGR) were available. This service was carried out within the framework of the project BopaBW, funded by DLR and led by the State Office of Geology, Raw Materials and Mining (LGRB) (funding code: 50EW1703A) created. The service describes the results of a project that investigated the applicability of Sentinel-2 satellite image data for the direct prediction of near-surface soil properties on arable land in Baden-Württemberg. Additional information, which is usually used as explanatory variables for spatial modelling, e.g. relief parameters and climate parameters, was not taken into account. The datasets presented in the service are research results and not official products of the LGRB.
