Description
Clay contents of the highest mineral soil horizon for field blocks classified KWasser1 and KWasser2 in Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg in accordance with GAEC 5 GAPKondV § 16 ‘Soil treatment to limit erosion’.
This map shows the clay contents of the uppermost mineral soil horizon according to soil mapping instructions 5th edition (KA5) for the field blocks with the classification KWasser1 and KWasser2. The basis for Lower Saxony is the translated soil estimation data 2018. Areas without soil estimation are filled by the soil map 1:50.000 (BK50). For Bremen, the soil data from the soil estimation and the soil overview map 1:50,000 (BÜK50) are used. For Hamburg, the soil data comes from the soil overview map 1:200,000 (BÜK200).
This card serves as a reference card for an exemption from the winter plough ban for areas at risk of water erosion (GAEC 5, KWasser1 and KWasser2) and is regulated in § 3 of the Lower Saxony Erosion Protection Ordinance.
Legal basis: According to the deviating requirements (§ 3(3) of the Lower Saxony Ordinance on agricultural land at risk of erosion, which entered into force on 15 February 2024.
(3) On arable land belonging to the erosion hazard class KWasser1 or KWasser2 and on which the topsoil has a clay content of more than 25 percent, ploughing is permitted by way of derogation from Section 16(2) and (3) sentences 1, 2 and 4 GAPKondV if:
1. the plough furrow is further processed after 15 February, and
2. are grown immediately thereafter with a row spacing of less than 45 cm between summer cereals, grain legumes, summer rape, field fodder, sugar beet or maize, or grassland is established.
In order to meet this "deviating requirement", all soil areas on the respective arable land must have a clay content of more than 25 %. For an initial assessment of whether this condition is met on a plot of land, the map shown shows the areas of the soil estimate or the BK50 according to the clay content of the top mineral soil horizon for all KWasser1 and KWasser2 classified field blocks in Lower Saxony. For the soil type Lu (silky clay) with clay content between 17-30 %, proof must be provided that the clay content in the soil area concerned is above 25 %.
