Supply and use of energy; energy carriers, households and businesses (NR)
Description
As part of the environmental accounts, CBS compiles the energy bills annually. Energy bills provide a consistent statistical framework for physical energy flows, reflecting how much energy enters the economy through extraction and import, how much energy products are produced and consumed within the economy by businesses and households, and how much energy leaves the economy through exports or net consumption (final consumption and conversion losses). The energy supply and energy consumption of the various energy carriers are allocated to the various sectors and households.
Optionally, tables can be drawn up showing the key variables for energy (extraction, production, intermediate consumption and household consumption of energy products, net consumption, stockpiling, import or export) per economic activity, per energy carrier and per year.
The energy accounts shall be drawn up in accordance with the national accounts definitions. This means that the figures of the energy bills reflect the supply and consumption of energy products by Dutch economic activities, and that these figures can be directly related to all kinds of macroeconomic data from the national accounts. The figures from the energy bills therefore deviate from the figures as published in the energy balance. The differences are explained in more detail in the research description.
The energy bills are primarily composed of the figures of the physical energy balance. These data are then adjusted to make them consistent with national accounts classifications and definitions. The adjustment for energy consumption by non-residents and residents abroad is made on the basis of data from transport statistics. The breakdown of energy consumption by sector is made using data from energy statistics, monetary data from national accounts and other data sources, such as agricultural statistics.

Status of figures:
The figures have a provisional status.
The figures in the energy accounts are comparable and consistent with the economic figures in the national accounts. However, the reconciliation between the environmental accounts and the national accounts takes place with a variety of sources. This means that although the system of calculations is the same every year, variation can occur due to changes in certain sources. For example, adjustments in traffic and transport statistics may have an impact on the entire time series of energy bills.
When will there be new figures?
New figures are published annually in October.
