Greening green-poor neighbourhoods

Description

This map shows greening projects in green-poor neighbourhoods. Eindhoven is a green city, but not everywhere. There are several neighborhoods in the city with a limited amount of greenery in the public space. Neighborhoods with less than 75m2 of public green per house are characterized as green-poor neighborhoods. Sufficient greenery in the area is important for cooling, shade and evaporation of water. Water can also penetrate the ground better in a green environment than in a paved environment. This relieves the sewer and reduces the risk of flooding. In addition, plants purify the air. By choosing the right greening, we are working on biodiversity. This means that there is a good variety of plants and insects, among other things. In addition, a green environment is a nice environment to stay in and has positive effects on health and social cohesion. Within the project green-poor neighborhoods, nine Eindhoven neighborhoods have been selected in which public space is being actively greened in a few places. Based on ideas from residents, designs have been made to replace tiles for planting areas and to expand growing places for trees. These greening projects improve the quality of life in the neighbourhood. The nine selected neighborhoods are: Flower square, Gildebuurt, Hemelrijken, Joriskwartier, Lakerlopen, Limbeek-Noord, Limbeek-Zuid, Rochusbuurt and Tivoli.
