Description
This table contains figures on employees by country of residence and region of work in the Netherlands, Belgium, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. The data can be further broken down by gender and nationality. These are workers working in a particular region regardless of age. The working regions considered are all municipalities of the Netherlands and Belgium and the German Länder of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony bordering the Netherlands.
This information has been compiled as part of an Interreg project within the Germany-Netherlands and Flanders-Netherlands programme to make cross-border labour market data available.

Changes as of 20 June 2024
For the reporting years 2017-2021, the working region for the Netherlands was not entirely correct. This has been repaired.
Changes as of 22 February 2024
None, this is a new table. Compared to its predecessor (see paragraph 3), figures for 2020 and 2021 have been added with the 2023 municipal breakdown. For Belgium, the breakdowns by nationality and sex are no longer available as of the reporting year 2020. Furthermore, the dates for old years have changed slightly for some regions. The Dutch data has been changed because newer versions of various registrations have been used for this. The Dutch data also contains a trend break between 2020 and 2021. The method of assigning employees to a work location working in a multi-site company has been improved. This results, among other things, in more border commuters working in a border region compared to the previous method.
When will there be new figures?
The new figures will be available in the fourth quarter of 2024.
