Carbon sequestration in the soil: total of all measures
Description
What do you see? This map shows the realistic potential for soil C for a combination of all the measures that have been calculated (non-reversing tillage, no tillage, harvesting/greening, improving crop rotations, leaving crop residues, crop edge management and not cracking grassland). For this variant, an estimate has been made of which measures can be combined and to what level these measures can be implemented. The map shows that the greatest realistic potentials lie in North-East Netherlands, Flevoland, Zeeland and North Brabant.
What’s the value? This card, together with the maps for the other measures, provides insight into where in the Netherlands a certain measure would be effective for C recording in agricultural soils.
Who is this important to? This map is important for policy makers and researchers involved in climate mitigation (carbon sequestration), but also for the agricultural sector where soil organic matter is an important indicator of soil quality.
