Pension gap for supplementary pension according to marital status

Description

Not all people who have recently taken their retirement pension have built up a supplementary pension during their career. The graph below shows the participation in the supplementary pension of men and women who have recently taken their retirement pension by marital status. What about the differences between men and women (in terms of coverage) for married, divorced and single people who have recently taken their pension and who actually have a supplementary pension? The chart below shows the pension gap of supplementary pensions for people who have recently taken their retirement pension by marital status. The graph above shows the average amounts by default. If we select the median amounts using the filter, we immediately notice that for all groups, the median pension gap is much higher than the average pension gap. This is a consequence of the unequal distribution of supplementary pensions. Between 2019 and 2022, as the chart shows, the pension gap increased from -23% to 1%, indicating an increase in the gap in favor of single men during this period. It is possible to compare the annual difference of each category (bar) with the annual overall pension gap of all pensioners receiving a supplementary pension (line). To better understand who is receiving a supplementary pension or not and the possible reasons for the pension gap, we divide recent pensioners according to their scheme (employee, self-employed, civil servant), age and marital status. For people with only an employee career, we also look at the situation according to certain career characteristics.
