Soils worthy of protection in Lower Saxony 1 : 50 000 - Soils of natural historical importance
Description
Soils that are particularly worthy of protection include soils whose natural functions as well as their archival function have essentially been preserved. According to soil protection law, impairments of these functions should be avoided (cf. ยง1 BBodSchG. Soils with natural history or geoscientific significance provide insight into soil developments of earlier epochs and thus provide information on, for example, climate or vegetation conditions of the past. The methods for determining the protection of soils in Lower Saxony are described in detail in Bug et al. (2019) is described. The evaluations are based on the soil map of Lower Saxony 1 : 50 000 (BK50) and the Digital Landscape Model (DLM25) of the LGLN.
