Farmland bird species management areas, Condition 11/8/2017
Description
Overview of the areas, located in Flanders, within which a management agreement for farmland birds (gray gorse, yellow-breasted, skylark, partridge, yellow wagtail, ring sparrow and lapwing) can be concluded, as determined by Ministerial Decree. This is due to changes in the agricultural landscape, as a result of which they do not find sufficient food, breeding and shelter.In the management areas, species protection measures for farmland birds have the greatest added value as there are still sufficiently large farmland bird populations. By increasing the food supply and providing extra nesting and shelter, the chances of survival of the farmland birds increase. It is important that the measures are sufficiently spread over the area.They are divided into core areas and search zones. Core areas are areas with a current high presence of farmland birds. Search zones are areas with a high potential for the presence of farmland birds. Within the core areas, based on the population density of farmland birds, a distinction is made between priority core areas with the highest densities, the 15,000 ha best areas and the 25,000 ha best areas, In the core areas each individual farmer can conclude a management agreement. In de resterende oppervlakte van het beheergebied, de zoekzones, kan dit alleen in het kader van een akkervogelproject.In de beheergebieden voor akkervogels kunnen beheerovereenkomsten voor de aanleg en onderhoud van een ‘gemengde grasstrook plus’ gesloten worden en overeenkomsten voor de teelt van een zaadleverend voedselgewas zoals tarwe of boekweit. Een ‘gemengde grasstrook plus’ is een kruidenrijke grasstrook die insecten aantrekt die als zomervoedsel dienen voor de akkervogels en hun jongen.
