Areas with high and moderate nutrient input potentials (nitrogen and/or phosphorus) in the North Atlantic Demarcation (EM NOR PRE ZO Nutrients)
Description
Areas of potential nutrient accumulation have been selected from the cells classified by the ‘Very High’ and ‘High’ ranges of meshing. In addition, the previous analysis has been completed with the work carried out within the framework of OSPAR and in compliance with other directives (Water Framework Directive, Waste Water Directive and Nitrates Directive), applying the following criteria:
- Areas with high accumulation potential: when the index reaches the values of the ‘Very High’ range and, in addition, there are some sensitive, vulnerable, potentially problematic areas in application of the common OSPAR procedure or that do not reach good status due to phytoplankton.
- Areas of moderate potential for accumulation: when the index reaches the values of the ‘Very High’ range but there is no sensitive, vulnerable, potentially problematic area in application of the common OSPAR procedure or that does not reach good status due to phytoplankton.
- Areas of moderate potential for accumulation: when the index reaches the values of the ‘High’ range, and there is a sensitive, vulnerable, potentially problematic area in application of the common OSPAR procedure or that does not reach good status due to phytoplankton.
