Suspected waterbeds due to business activities: Brominated flame retardants (BDE)
Description
"Map layer is the result of ""Study assignment brominated flame retardants in sediment"" carried out by SWECO on behalf of De Vlaamse Waterweg and OVAM. The study focuses on the West region within De Vlaamse Waterweg activities (https://www.vlaanderen.be/organisations/administrative-services-of-the-Flemish-government/policy-domain-mobility-and-public-works/the-Flemish-waterway-nv/department-region-west). The parcels with suspicious business activities were used to estimate the hotspots in the watercourses. The suspect plots were linked to VHA segments where a suspect plot is linked to the nearest segment (max. 250m). In order to estimate the hotspots, the list of suspicious sections was supplemented by the permit period, the relevance of the permit and the research priority. The relevance of the authorisation is further classified on the basis of the end date of the authorisation period. For example, permits with an end date before 1970 are classified as ‘irrelevant’, those with an end date after 1970 as ‘relevant’ and those whose end date is unknown as ‘unknown’. Based on these additional parameters, 4 categories of hotspots in watercourse segments were identified according to the number of linked parcels, the relevance of the permit and its additional priority. The level of suspicion and the potential contamination rate of the hotspots shall be displayed. The VHA segments that were not linked to a suspicious plot and are not assessed."
