Higher education (ho) first and older year students
Description
This table shows the number of first and older year students at the higher education institutions funded by the government by type of education, study, country of origin and country of birth (parents).
CBS is moving on to a new classification of the population by origin. From now on, it is more decisive where someone was born, in addition to where one’s parents were born. The word ‘migration background’ is no longer used. The main division of Western/Non-Western is replaced by a classification based on continents and common immigration countries. This classification is gradually introduced in tables and publications with population by origin.
From the academic year 2015/'16, this table also shows the number of students enrolled at some designated institutions: the theological universities and the University of Humanistics. From the academic year 2016/'17 the Transnational University of Limburg has also been included. The ISCED-F2013 format is used in this table.
This table shows, by year, the distribution of students between the different fields of study. Due to clusters and splits of year-on-year studies, this table is less suitable for a comparison of fields of study over the years.

Status of the figures:
The figures for the study years up to 2021/‘22 are final and the figures for the academic year 2022/’23 are provisional.
