Description

The Moving Friendly Environment shows how the physical environment in public space scores on the ability for people to exercise and move. The assumption is that a more exercise-friendly environment contributes to more sports and exercise. The Move-friendly environment consists of 4 sub-indicators and a total score, all of which have a score from 0 to 100. 1. Sports facilities (diversity and proximity football fields, hockey courts, tennis courts, sports halls, fitness facilities and swimming pools) 2. Sports and play areas (nearly sports and play areas in the public space) 3. Recreational green and blue (proximity and surface parks, water suitable for recreational use) 4. Proximity to amenities (e.g. average distance to supermarket and school) The total score is the average of the scores on the sub-indicators on which a score has been achieved. The higher the score, the more people have a good accessibility, proximity or diversity of a sub-indicator. Because the possibilities for cycling and hiking are central to the moving environment, the proximity to sports facilities, sports and play areas and recreational green and blue, are calculated by using a cycling and hiking network. The sub-indicators are calculated at the lowest possible geographical scale. The first three sub-indicators were calculated at the level of the CBS squares of 100 * 100 meters. Only CBS squares are used where people live. The proximity statistics (neighborhood, municipal and national level) of CBS were used for the proximity indicator of facilities.
