Road Characteristics Database-WKD/Middle Berm Width

Description

The Road Characteristics Database is a collection of databases each with a relevant road attribute this can be linked to the national road stock (NWB). These can be road characteristics include, for example, the maximum speed, the width of the road or the presence of entry. There is a separate file for each of these road features. In this road characteristics database, the width of the middle broom is recorded. This width the mid-berm is determined for road safety. The narrower the middle broom, the it is easier for a vehicle to get to the wrong half of the road, with all the consequences. In addition, it is also important to identify or in the middle of other obstacles be present, such as guide rails, ditches or other objects that may prevent vehicles can get on the wrong half of the road. The width of the middle m is recorded on roads with separate lanes. In addition, it is always determined on the left side of the hardening plane which is the width of the median m is.This is done to prevent the width of the outer bogs from also being determined. For separate lanes, in fact, the width of the middle barge is determined twice. One turn for the outward direction and the other time for the backward direction. The width of the mid-berm shall be determined for roads with a maximum speed of 70 km/h and higher. Furthermore, the guide rails in the middle bears are also mapped. When the if a guide rail is inserted in the middle, then the width of the middle broom for that part of the road not mapped and displayed in this WKD file. For the detection of the guide rail and mid-berm, it must first be clear what is understood under the middle broom. In the NWB, the one-way roads have been digitised in the direction of travel. The middle m is the part to the left of a road compartment until another road compartment is hit minus the section with asphalt (the roadway). For the detection of the guide rail and mid-berm width therefore, only look at the left side of the road. It is first examined whether there is a guide rail is present in the middle bar. If it is present, a possible mid-berm width is no longer fixed. In terms of road safety, this road is already “safe” due to the presence of the guide rail.
