Description
The historical series 'Newly built houses; input price index construction costs 2000=100, from 1990 onwards' shows the development of the costs (wages and materials) involved in the construction of new homes in the Netherlands.
This series was created by linking independently calculated series from the past.
An input price index is determined on the basis of the price developments of the various cost components from which the product to be realized - in this case a new-build home - is built. Changes in the prices of equipment (tools and machinery), overheads and 'profits & risks' are excluded from the composition of this index. Costs for energy and transport are also not included in the calculation because their impact on the final cost price is relatively small. The price evolution of land costs is also not included in this input price index.
From 1990 to December 1994 only figures for the material component are available. Since 1995, this series has been extended to include figures on the wage component. From that period onwards, by weighted addition of these two series, a series is also available for the total construction costs.

Status of figures:
Wages price indices and total construction costs definitively up to 2023.
The price indices of the materials are final until April 2024.
Changes as of 30 October 2024
Figures for September 2024 have been added.
Since this publication, the switch has been made to a different rounding strategy, whereby the changes are calculated on unrounded indices and annual figures are calculated from rounded and published figures. With this move, there is more consistency with other statistics on Statline and Eurostat statistics. As a result, mutations have changed throughout the series.
When will there be new figures?
The new figures are published approximately 30 days after the reporting month.
