Ground, road and hydraulic engineering (GWW); input price index 2000 = 100, from 1979 onwards
Description
The historical series 'Land, road and hydraulic engineering; input price index 2000=100, from 1979 onwards' shows the development of the costs of labour, materials and equipment for civil engineering projects (GWW) in the Netherlands. This series was created by linking independently calculated series from the past.
There are currently eight sub-areas within the GWW. These sub-areas are derived from the standard Classification Products to Activity. In addition, there is another sub-area for which there has been no observation since 2005. For each sub-area, an index series is determined on the basis of the price developments of the various cost components from which the product to be realized - in this case a project in the GWW - is built up. The price index for the Total GWW is a weighted average of the eight sub-areas. The published price indices of the GWW are based on the average price level of the month in question. In addition to the price indices, the developments compared to 1 year earlier are also published. Changes in general costs and 'profit & risk' are not included in the composition of this index. Changes in excise duties (such as those of ‘red’ diesel as of 1 January 2013) are also not reflected in the price indices.

The series of the different sub-areas of civil engineering can cover different periods. Some start in 1979, while others only started with the basic shift to 2000=100.
The period for which a series of figures is given is as follows:
- 4211c: Maintenance of roads: from February 1979; stopped in October 2004
- 4211a: Roads with open pavement: from February 1979
- 4211b: Roads with closed pavement: from February 1979
- 4221: Working for liquids: from February 1979
- 4312: Site preparation: from February 1979
- 42/43: Ground, civil and hydraulic engineering: from January 2000
- 4212: Overhead and underground railways: from January 2000
- 4213: Bridges and tunnels: from January 2000
- 4291: Hydraulic engineering works: from January 2000
- 4321: Electrical installations: from January 2005
Status of figures:
The price indices shall be final until 2022. The remaining price indices are provisional. The period during which the price indices are provisional depends on when the collective labour agreements involved in the GWW are concluded. This period can range from 4 to approximately 16 months after the period for which the figures are calculated.

When will there be new figures?
Preliminary figures for July 2024 will be published at the end of August 2024.
