Migration; country of departure/destination, country of birth and sex
Description
Immigration, emigration and the balance of foreign migration of persons in and from the Netherlands by sex, age (0 to 5 years, ... 45 to 50 years, 50 years or older), country of departure (in the case of immigration) or country of destination (in the case of emigration) and country of birth (equal to the country of departure/destination, the Netherlands, other country).
The migration figures do NOT include the administrative corrections. For the administrative corrections, no information on the country of departure or the country of destination is known to Statistics Netherlands.
CBS is moving to a new classification of the population by origin. From now on, it is more decisive where someone was born, and less decisive where someone's parents were born. The word "migration background" is no longer used. The main classification Western/non-Western is replaced by a classification based on continents and common immigration countries. This classification is gradually introduced in tables and publications with population by origin.

Changes as of 30 October 2023:
None, this is a new table. This table is the successor of 'Migration; country of origin/establishment, country of birth, sex; 1995-2022'. See paragraph 3.
The following changes have been made to the discontinued table:
- The name of the tab ‘Country of origin/establishment’ has been replaced by ‘Country of departure/destination’;
- The countries of departure/destination Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey have been allocated to continental Asia (was Europe);
- The table has been expanded with age (5 year groups, 0-50 years and older).
- By using an improved way of deducing the European Union (excluding the Netherlands), small differences can occur compared to the discontinued table.
When will there be new figures?
For the time being, only data from 2014 to 2023 are available in the table. The periods 1995 to 2013 will be added to the table at a later date.
In the 3rd quarter of 2025, the figures for 2024 will be included in this publication.
