Description

In the event of heavy rain, the water on the streets can become so high that certain road sections become impassable for passenger cars, or even for emergency traffic such as ambulances, police and fire brigade. This map shows the provincial roads that are still accessible after a 35 mm in 1 hour shower (T10). Roads remain accessible if water remains on the road for less than 30 minutes. About this risk analysis: In order to get a clear picture of where flooding will occur during extreme precipitation, the Province of Zuid-Holland consultancy Nelen & Schuurmans has had the provincial infrastructure of Zuid-Holland tested on a model basis (2023). This is also called a stress test. This stress test is based on a certain total precipitation - calculated for 35 millimetres and 70 millimetres, over the relevant area around the roads managed by the province, in a period of one hour. The relevant area has been determined on the basis of the publicly available road file, included in the Large-Scale Topography Basic Registration (BGT). The roads are filtered by the road operator; the roads included in the analysis are in the management of the Province of Zuid-Holland.
