Risk Analysis Water nuisance Heavy Precipitation – Maintenance Cost – Maximum flow rate (70MM) (2023)

Description

With a heavy rain shower, the water on the streets can become so high that certain road sections become impassable for passenger cars, or even for emergency traffic such as ambulances, police and fire brigades. This card shows the maximum flow rate at a shower of 70 mm in 1 hour. Too high flow rates can cause leaching of the verges, which can lead to high maintenance costs. From 2 m/s it has been agreed that a possible risk of leaching may arise. About this Risk Analysis: To get a clear picture of where flooding will occur at the time of extreme precipitation, the Province of Zuid-Holland has had consultancy firm Nelen & Schuurmans modelled on the provincial infrastructure of South Holland (2023). This is also called a stress test. This stress test is based on a certain total precipitation – calculated for 35 milimeter and 70 milimeter, over the relevant area around the roads managed by the province, over a period of one hour. The relevant area has been determined on the basis of the publicly available road stock, included in the Basic Registration Large-Scale Topography (BGT). In doing so, the roads are filtered on the road manager; the roads included in the analysis are in the management of the Province of South Holland.
