Service instead of product
Description
In recent years, innovative services have been developed to help use or replace products more efficiently and thus contribute to lower resource consumption and waste generation. However, many of these services require government support in order to reach market maturity. From a resource conservation perspective, public funding should be concentrated on those projects that increase resource efficiency the most and contribute to waste prevention. The present report concludes, based on a rough analysis of around 70 project ideas and a detailed analysis of five service areas, that the service areas ‘Homeservices’ and ‘ReUse Centres’ should be the focus of support from the Waste Management Section of the Ministry of Life, but also the areas ‘Coaching Exchanges and Carsharing’ and ‘Plant Protection as a Service’ should be the subject of a state-supported development programme.
