Households; persons by sex, age and region, 1 January
Description
Persons in the Netherlands living in a private or institutional household by place in the household, gender, age and region on 1 January.
The following breakdowns are possible:
- Persons in all households by gender, age and region;
- Individuals in private households by household location, gender, age and region;
- Individuals in institutional households by gender, age and region.
The regions listed in the table are subdivisions, provinces, COROP areas and municipalities.
The regional totals presented concern aggregations of municipalities. In the case of border changes that go beyond different regional borders, the classification of the municipalities is grouped according to the most recent situation.
For example: the municipality of Vianen, which moved from the province of Zuid-Holland to the province of Utrecht on 1 January 2002, is grouped in the table in the province of Utrecht.
Regional figures on the institutional population show fluctuations from year to year which are sometimes difficult to explain. The methodology used is based on the typing of address occupancy based on secondary sources. Not in all cases the typing is perfect. This may be because an address has changed function, for example from care institution to housing of (former) asylum seekers, without CBS having taken note of this. In other situations, it may happen that one year an address remains above the thresholds used in terms of the number of institutional residents that apply to the demarcation of institutional addresses. Indirectly, such fluctuations also affect the number of single-person households.

When will new figures come out?
In the 3rd quarter of 2025, figures will be added as of 1 January 2025.
