Description
A postcode is a series of letters and/or numbers added to the postal address for the purpose of sorting mail. Filling in the postal code on the dispatch, contributes to its efficient distribution.
The first postcode in Romania was introduced in 1974, and the code consisted of four digits.
On 1 May 2003, a new six-digit numeric postal code entered into force in order to shorten operating times in postal services. Thus, the encoding becomes detailed up to the street level.
One of the purposes of codification was to eliminate confusion between homonymous localities in the same county.
