Description
Natura 2000 is a network of protected areas for the conservation of European important habitats as well as rare animal and plant species. The legal basis of this cross-border nature protection network is the Bird Conservation and Fauna Flora Habitats (FFH) Directives of the European Union. In accordance with the requirements of the Habitats Directive, each Member State shall designate areas that are important for the conservation of rare animal and plant species as well as typical or unique habitats of European importance.
