Finnish surface geology 1:1 000 000 OneGeology – Europe
Description
The surface geology map of Finland was created for the OneGeology Europe project by digitising Finland’s soil map 1:1 000 000 from 1993 and attaching material from the Geological map of the Fennoscandian Shield 1:2 000 000 from 2001 to the points where the ground map had a rock expanse area marked on the soil map. The objective of the OneGeology Europe project is to create a harmonised digital geological map dataset across Europe.
The Finnish surface geology map data includes soil and bedrock units as areas and the impact craters of the Fennoscandian plate map as areas and tectonic lines. The material has been reclassified according to the data specification guidelines for OneGeology Europe. Based on recent radiometric age determinations, the rock species material in the map database has been regrouped and regrouped in 2009-2010 together with the Swedish and Norwegian geological research institutes to meet the needs of the OneGeology Europe project. The scale of use of the map data is 1:1 000 000.
