Siegfried map 1880 Canton of Aargau with springs from Mühlberg Atlas
Description
It is the Siegfried map 1880 with the sources drawn by Friedrich Mühlberg until 1901. The cantonal school teacher, chemist, botanist, zoologist and geologist Friedrich Mühlberg initiated the creation of a source map or source atlas of the Aargau in 1891. The aim was primarily to discourage bad springs based on this map and to point out healthy springs because too many people died from drinking bad water. 3,017 uncaptured springs, 4,261 captured springs and 3,573 sod wells were inventoried. They were drawn by hand on the Siegfried card 1:25,000. The recordings also included geological information on the locations of the springs and Sodbrunnen, which can be found in the original work (Aargauische Kantonsbibliothek). In 1901 Mühlberg presented the source map to the Aargau government. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of this map work in the canton of Aargau, the sources were digitised from the scanned original sheets in 2001 and recorded as a point data set -> see data set kai_quellenmuehlb_20010815.
