Sampling of the sled HORUS INTEMARES_A4 Mud volcanoes in the Gulf of Cadiz

Description

The results will serve to improve and complete the characterization of the benthic communities of the sedimentary bottoms both in the Somero Field and in the Deep of the SCI. This is the representation of the spatial distribution of the different linear transects of underwater image acquisition made through the use of the HORUS photogrammetric sleigh. The area comprising the data provided covers sedimentary bottoms of specific polygons (three), located within the SCI, and in which, within the same polygon, zones (three) were plotted in which a different gradient of bottom trawling activity (low, medium and high) was observed using Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) data during the 2010-19 historical series. In total, 41 photogrammetric sleigh transects were performed: 27 underwater image transects in the Somero Field of the SCI (3 transects were carried out in the 3 polygons and in each of the areas with different bottom trawling activity); 3 at the Anastasya mud volcano; iii) 2 on the Tarshish mud volcano and iv) 12 transects of underwater images made in different areas of the Deep Field of the SCI. It is a data set composed of linear elements, where each element represents the transect where the acquisition of underwater images was made. A brief description of the fauna observed during the transect of the images is also provided and in observations mention is made of the quality of the images taken. The development of this set of geographical information began in April 2021 thanks to the INTEMARES A4 CAD oceanographic campaign. The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database. These works have been financed thanks to the LIFE IP INTEMARES Project (LIFE-IP INTEMARES - Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management for N2000 network in the Marine Environment - LIFE15 IPE/ES/000012). This integrated project has the challenge of laying the foundations to effectively manage the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network and complete the work and progress promoted within the framework of the LIFE + INDEMARES project, which managed to take a great step in terms of declaring new areas.
