Wasserkarte.info - Water maps for fire brigades
Description
Water maps and hydrant plans are an important tool in the fire department to quickly find the next water abstraction point. So far, the creation of these maps has involved a lot of time. Calculating and documenting fire-fighting water discharges over long distances has also been a very time-consuming task so far.
‘[Wasserkarte.info](http://Wasserkarte.info)’ is a novel online application that supports fire brigades in the creation of hydrant maps and data sheets for fire-fighting water transport over long distances.
The platform offers a simple input form for recording the individual water abstraction points. In addition to the application-relevant data (e.g. type, performance, route, photo, etc.), the exact location is also recorded in this form with the help of a map.
Subsequently, PDF data sheets are generated from this data, which can be stored in the emergency vehicles. These data sheets are clearly structured and easy to understand by using the tactical characters according to TRVB O 121.
Fires in exposed areas are a major challenge for firefighters. Often the extinguishing water has to be transported over long distances to the place of fire. For this purpose, long hose lines are laid. In order to ensure an appropriate water supply, several amplifier pumps often have to be used.
The calculation and documentation of these fire-fighting water conveyances over longer distances is an important part of extensive preparation for use.
Wasserkarte.info provides fire departments with an easy-to-understand tool to facilitate this work. The route of the hose line and the pump locations can be plotted on a map and important information can be recorded. These data can also be exported as data sheets and stored in the emergency vehicle.
++ Automatic calculation of pump locations
In some federal states in Austria, it is already possible to automatically calculate the pump locations. This function will be gradually expanded to other areas. This eliminates the need for complex manual calculation with maps.
Currently, this feature is available in the following areas:
* Burgenland
* Carinthia
* Lower Austria
* Upper Austria
* Salzburg (except Lungau)
* Styria
* Tyrol
* Vienna
So far, several thousand users from German-speaking countries have registered on the ‘wasserkarte.info’ platform and the feedback shows that the created water maps are already being used successfully.
The project has so far received a jury award as part of the Multimedia and e-Business Award 2013, the Edison 2013 in bronze and the Constantinus Award in the OpenSource Special Prize category. The project is also nominated for the eAward 2013 report in the ‘Platforms and Social Media’ category.
