Climate change report 2013
Description
The Climate Action Report compares greenhouse gas emissions in Austria with the Kyoto target for the period 2008-2012. The result: At 82.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, emissions in 2011 were 6.0% higher than in 1990. Compared to 2010, emissions fell by around 2.3%. By increasing the use of flexible instruments such as the Joint Implementation and Clean Development Mechanism (JI/CDM) purchase programme, Austria will fulfil its commitments under the Kyoto Protocol. For the period 2013-2020, the EU sets binding targets for the reduction of greenhouse gases and the share of renewable energies. As scenario analyses by the Federal Environment Agency show, these goals can only be achieved if additional measures are implemented domestically, especially in transport and room heating.
