Description

Areas listed under forest conservation obligations in the land register or land register, cf. Consolidation Act No 1044 of 20 October 2008 on forests. By far the largest part of the Danish forests are conservatory forests. The forest peace obligation was introduced more than 200 years ago to secure Denmark's supply of timber after almost all forest in Denmark had been cleared. When an area is subject to forest conservation obligations, it means that the owner of the area is obliged to use it at all times for forestry purposes. Forestry is a very long-term form of cultivation. The forest peace obligation follows a number of rules that together ensure long-term forest cultivation, so that the forests also benefit subsequent generations. The areas subject to forest conservation are called forest conservation areas. A forest of peace shall consist of trees that either form or are in the process of growing up into a closed forest of tall-stemmed trees. However, this does not mean that there cannot be uncultivated areas in a forest. As a starting point, areas subject to forest conservation according to the Forestry Act are: 1. Areas which the Minister for the Environment has decided shall be subject to forest conservation obligations. 2. Areas listed in the land register or land register as majoratsskov. 3. Areas of forest owned or acquired by the State, municipalities or national church, areas owned by them and where forest is established or occurs, as well as associated areas without tree stands.
