Motor vehicles; total by period and by technical characteristics, 2000-2012
Description
This table contains key figures on the size of the motor vehicle fleet (passenger cars, commercial vehicles and motorcycles) broken down by vehicle characteristics (i.e. age class, fuel type, model and weight) of the owner (age and province).
The figures are based on the registration number of RDW (until 1996 National Road Transport Service).
With the help of this registration, counts were made of all vehicles with current registration plates that appeared in the registration file on 1 January of the year in question.
Data available from 2000 to 2012.

The data of 1 January 2012 have been added.
Changes as of 24 April 2012:
The following figures have been corrected for 2010 and 2011 in this table:
Age of Owner: in the source stock, 3 vehicle owners have an age below 18 years of age, which are now classified in category 18 and 19 year olds (both for passenger cars and motorcycles).
Number of cylinders for motorcycles: vehicles with an unlikely number of cylinders are placed in the other/unknown category.
Age of owner of motorcycles: up to and including previous version there was a category “Age Other/Unknown”. It has been shown that these are only motorcycles in the name of legal persons; the name of the relevant category has therefore been changed to ‘In legal entity name’.
