Penitentiary establishments; size of personnel on the reference date 1994-2012
Description
This table describes the size of the staff of the penitentiary establishments by function category. In the table, the data are broken down by gender of staff and type of establishment (1994-2002). Only staff with permanent employment or temporary employment with a view to permanent employment with the government are included. Staff data have not been corrected for reduced working hours and part-time positions.
Data available from: 1994 to 2012.
Status of the figures:
For a number of reasons, some caution is needed when interpreting the numbers. From 1994 to 2004, double counting occur because some staff perform their duties in more than one establishment and the staff size per establishment has been observed. From 2005 onwards, there is almost no question of these double counts because the observation is usually carried out per cluster (establishments). In 2003, many establishments merged into larger clusters. Almost every cluster is both prison and home of detention. As a result, from 2003 onwards, data will no longer be available per type of establishment. From 1998 onwards, no separate data were available on the special establishments. As of 1997, no separate data on the other services are available.
