Crimes; penalties and measures imposed 1994-2016
Description
This table deals with the penalties imposed by the court of first instance. The figures are broken down by the type of sanction and some of its characteristics, such as the amount of a fine and the duration of a custodial sentence. The figures can also be broken down by type of crime, type of suspect and the suspect’s age category. The figures in the table are rounded to five.
Data available from 1994 to 2016.
Status of the figures:
The figures for the last year are preliminary figures. As this table has been discontinued, the data will no longer be finalised.

Amendments as of 11 September 2017:
The figures on the settlements by the court of first instance have been adjusted retroactively from 2001 due to an error in the data supply to CBS. As a result, an underestimation of the number of settlements by the court took place. These were mainly super-fast lawsuits that were missing.
The underlying encodings of the classifications used in this table have been adjusted. These are now in line with the standard codes laid down by CBS. The structure and data of the table have not been adjusted accordingly.
The preliminary figures for 2016 have been added.
