Label large site of France in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
Description
The label belongs to the State, which registered it with the National Institute of Industrial Property in 2003. It is managed by the Ministry of Ecology. It has been registered in the Environmental Code Art. L 341-15-1 since the Law of 12 July 2010 establishing a national commitment for the environment:
“The Grand Site de France label can be awarded by the minister responsible for the sites to a classified site of great renown and high attendance. The award of the label is subject to the implementation of a project for the preservation, management and development of the site, in line with the principles of sustainable development. The boundaries of the territory concerned by the label may include municipalities other than those including the classified site, provided that they participate in the project. This label shall be awarded, at its request, to a local authority, a public establishment, a mixed trade union or a management body comprising, in particular, the local authorities concerned. The award decision shall determine the duration of the label.’
This label is a selective and demanding label. It is awarded for a period of 6 years, after consulting the Superior Commission of Sites, Perspectives and Landscapes, and the Réseau des Grands Sites de France.
It is the recognition of management in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, reconciling the preservation of the landscape and the “spirit of the places”, quality of the reception of the public, participation of residents and partners in the life of the Great Site. It may be withdrawn at any time in the event of failure to comply with the commitments of protection, development, local economic development and respect for the visitor. The Réseau des Grands Sites de France brings together Grands Sites who have already obtained the label and others who work to obtain it one day.
