Description
Brandenburg is home to a plethora of near-surface mineral raw materials that provide the basis for production and innovation in the country’s raw materials industry, but also beyond the country’s borders. With high-quality gravel sand and sand forecoms widely spread across the country, a wide range of construction measures, infrastructure measures or further processing operations are supplied locally. But not only sand and gravel as mass building materials, also high-quality glass sands, clays and special clays, peat as well as the hard rocks of the Lausitzer Grauwacke and the limestone from the open-cast mine near Rüdersdorf find a wide variety of applications in the most diverse areas of everyday life.
With the mapping, evaluation and publication of the raw material potentials as well as their contribution to regional planning, the State Office for Mining, Geology and Raw Materials Brandenburg (LBGR) is taking on a key task on the way to supply the country with indigenous mineral raw materials. At the heart of this work is the map of near-surface raw materials in scale 1: 50 000.
The basic map work was produced from 1993 to 1996 in a first edition for the Land of Bran-denburg and subsequently continuously revised. Since 2015, the KOR 50 has been reassessed. New insights into existing raw material potentials through the evaluation of new drill circuits are also taken into account, as well as changes in economic exploitation or the progression of raw material extraction within the deposit area. The map thus reflects the most up-to-date state of knowledge about the distribution of stone and earth raw materials in the state of Brandenburg.
