Accumulation of pressures that can cause pathogens to enter the South Atlantic Demarcation (EM SUD PRE Pathogens)
Description
The joint analysis of pressures that may facilitate the entry of pathogens into the sea has considered wastewater discharges, aquaculture facilities and mollusc farming areas, bathing areas and rivers (which may also provide wastewater loads). Ballast water has not been included in this analysis.
To identify areas of potential pathogen entry, an index has been developed based on the following criteria, applied to meshing:
- Presence of a sewage treatment plant within 5 km
- Presence of an aquaculture facility or mollusc area
- Presence of the mouth of a river less than 2 km
- Presence of a bathing area less than 500 m
Each factor is assigned a value of 1, double scoring the treatment plants that have an obligation to report to the State Registry of Emissions and Pollutant Sources. They've finally joined in. The result is classified according to the following ranges:
Very High: 7 / High: 6 / Medium: 4 to 5 / Low: 1 to 3 / Very Low: 0
