Purpose and summary description Population perspectives are periodically realised to enable the various actors in the social, economic and political life of our country to learn about the possible evolution of the population, in its various components. They are based on detailed knowledge of the current demographic situation and assumptions about the components of the demographic movement of mortality, fertility, internal migration and international migration. The latest population outlook available is the 2019-2070 outlook, which is the result of close collaboration between the Federal Planning Bureau (FPB) and Statbel. Published in 2020, they follow the 2018-2070 outlook. They have as their starting point the observations as of 1 January 2019 and were prepared by district, age, sex and for two nationality groups. They are complemented by household prospects and a projection of forward-looking mortality quotients. Population studied Residents in Belgium Tricennale Periodicity. Release Schedule Available results 14 months after reference period Definitions Age: Age is measured in years past 1 January. Nationality: The results of the projection are drawn according to the distinction between persons of Belgian nationality and persons of foreign nationality (on 1 January of the year in question). Administrative entity: The results of the projection are determined by region, province and district. Natural balance: difference between the number of births and the number of deaths. Net migration: difference between the number of immigrants and the number of emigrations.
