Traffic performance passenger cars, fuel expanded, age
Description
This table contains figures on traffic performance (vehicle-kilometres) of Dutch passenger cars, broken down by type of fuel and the age of the vehicle. The table also shows the total number of vehicle kilometres travelled by all passenger cars and an average per vehicle.
The table also shows the number of passenger cars in use, this is not a stand figure but the number of vehicles that may have driven on the road during the year under review. These are active vehicles, vehicles that have failed (e.g. export or demolition) and vehicles that have been in the company stock.
The vehicle population for which mileage is estimated is based on the statistics on the motor vehicle park. The population of the figures in this table is based on the new selection method of the motor vehicle park. The difference between the old and the new selection method is described in a method report, see paragraph 4. The range of kilometres estimated on the basis of the new population is available from reporting year 2018. The series based on the old vehicle population runs until the reporting year 2020. The way in which the mileage is estimated has not changed, only the population.
For the 2020 reporting year figures, the method’s smoothing effect has been corrected by a correction factor. Because of this smoothing effect, the annual variation in the figures is flattened. This gives a distorted picture of periods in which mobility suddenly changes dramatically, as in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
