Accumulation of pressures that can cause the entry of nutrients (nitrogen and / or phosphorus) in the Canary Islands (EM CAN PRE Nutrients)
Description
In order to identify the areas with the highest nutrient input (nitrogen and/or phosphorus) in the Canary Islands, a spatial analysis of the sources described in section 2.6. of the "Pressure and Impact Analysis" of the Canary Islands has been carried out. Using 5 by 5 minute meshing, the following cells have been selected:
- Those that are less than 500 m from an authorized place for the discharge of dredged material.
- Presence of aquaculture facilities.
- Those that are less than 100 m from urban wastewater discharges.
- Those that are less than 100 m from a PRTR discharge, both sewage treatment plants and industrial facilities, which have the obligation to report through the PRTR record of the discharged loads of total nitrogen and/or total phosphorus.
Once all the elements have been integrated, the index has been calculated using the following formula:
ÍNDICE NUTRIENTES = 0,25*[vertederos material dragado + instalaciones de acuicultura + vertidos de aguas residuales urbanas sin tratamiento] + 0.5*[vertidos de EDARs menor 100.000 Heq] + 0.75*[vertidos de EDARs mayor 100.000 Heq que no reportan al PRTR] + 1*[industrias y EDARs que reportan al PRTR por nutrientes]
The result is a mesh of probabilities of inputs of high nutrient loads that, therefore, can indicate areas with greater potential nutrient input. The following criteria have been selected to give value to the cells:
Very High: 2,01 to 2,5 / Height: 1,01 to 2 / Medium: 0.51 to 1 / Low: 0.01 to 0.5 / Very Low: 0
