Swiss Operation Classification (CHOP)

Description

As part of the survey of inpatient health care (SpiGes), all inpatient hospital stays are recorded. The survey, which is carried out in all hospitals and clinics, includes not only administrative data and socio-demographic characteristics of patients, but also diagnoses and treatments. To capture this information, two medical classifications are used. These are the ICD-10-GM for diagnoses and the Swiss surgical classification (CHOP) for treatments. The encoding of diagnoses and treatments is subject to precise guidelines. The Department of Medical Classifications of the FSO edits, reviews and adapts these guidelines if necessary, maintains the above-mentioned classifications and supports all those who deal with coding. Versions 2025 of the CHOP's systematic and alphabetical directories will enter into force in Switzerland on 1 January 2025. These directories are available in German, French and Italian as well as in various formats (PDF, CSV, Print). The German version of the systematic directory is the reference version.
