Road traffic emission factors by year of construction and fuel type, 2005
Description
‘Road traffic emission factors’ provides a set of emission factors for the
exhaust gases from road vehicles per year of manufacture, applicable to
statistical year 2005. These factors, which are the emission of exhaust gases
give per vehicle-kilometre, have been used in the calculation of the
emissions from road traffic (see 3).
From 2007 a new set of emission factors will be used (= version
“New emission factors”). In the table there are also similar factors
included used in the calculation of provisional figures
2005 in July 2006(= version “Old emission factors”).
These are emission factors of the substances CO, VOC (only by
combustion), NOx and PM10 for the road types of built-up areas, outdoor roads and
motorways.
The following vehicle categories are distinguished:
Total, passenger car-petrol, passenger car-diesel, passenger car-LPG,
motorcycle two-wheeler, van-petrol, van-diesel, van-LPG,
truck-diesel, tractor-diesel and bus-diesel.
Construction years:
Vehicles from 0 to 8 years old (construction years 1997 to 2005) and of
the year group 9 years and older (= 1996 and older).
Years: 2005.

Final figures (= t-2, in which t=year of publication).
Changes compared to the previous version:
— The emission factors of passenger and vans with a three-way road—
catalyst prior to the introduction of the EURO1 emission standard (= years of construction)
1992 and earlier) are equated to EURO1 (see also 2).
— TNO uses their VERSIT+ for the first time in 2007
calculation model for the determination of emission factors of road vehicles. The
the main differences with the old VERSIT model are:
* The application of a fundamentally different calculation methodology for individuals—
and vans. Previously, emission factors were estimated on the basis of
available measurement data and existing knowledge. Versit+ uses
statistical modelling based on a comprehensive database with
emission tests. In addition, the calculations are carried out with a lot of
greater number of model classes.
* In VERSIT+ the traffic situations are described in more detail and
quantified by using ride patterns that are better than
previously imitated the practice. These ride patterns include:
derived from practical journeys carried out by TNO on the Dutch
road network.
* Versit+ is based on the latest emission measurement programmes that
were carried out at TNO. The old emission factors contain this information
not yet.
* The calculation modules for heavy-duty vehicles are recently
updated with new measurement data from abroad and adapted to
the latest insights.
When are new figures coming?
In principle, a new table is created each spring that
applies to the most recent published statistical year with
final figures (= t-2, in which t = year of publication).
The previous version will then be moved to the Statline archive.
